The Insecure Writers Support Group…

Wednesday is the day I share what I’ve learned on my journey from writing, publication, marketing; and doing it all again, and again. The kind of information I wish someone shared with me when I started.

It’s also the first Wednesday of the month which means it’s time for The Insecure Writers Support Group!

And I’m thrilled to be hosting this month, it’s been awhile.

Purpose:

To share and encourage. Writers can express doubts and concerns without fear of appearing foolish or weak. If you’ve been through the fire you can offer your assistance, and guidance. It’s a safe- haven for insecure writers of all kinds!

Posting:

The first Wednesday of every month is officially Insecure Writer’s Support Group day. Post your thoughts on your own blog. Talk about your doubts and the fears you have conquered. Discuss your struggles and triumphs. Offer a word of encouragement for others who are struggling. Visit others in the group and connect with your fellow writer – aim for a dozen new people each time – and return comments. This group is all about connecting!

Let’s rock the neurotic writing world!

Our Twitter handle is @TheIWSG and hashtag is #IWSG.

Every month, we announce a question that members can answer in their IWSG post. These questions may prompt you to share advice, insight, a personal experience or story. Include your answer to the question in your IWSG post or let it inspire your post if you are struggling with something to say.

Remember, the question is optional!

The September 4th question is:

If you could pick one place in the world to sit and write your next story, where would it be and why?

I am in love with Daytona Shores Resort and Spa  in Daytona Beach Shores in Florida.

We’ve been staying there for many years. It used to be a Hilton. A few years ago, my husband thought a visit might help me get through some issues with my second book. He was so right I finished that book.
We visited the first week of August this year and on this visit I was obsessed with the pool. It’s impossible not to be filled with creative ideas while lounging in a pool while looking at the ocean.

I was awake to witness glorious sunrises every morning. I wrote for several hours, enjoyed room service breakfast (it was so reasonable) and then headed for the pool.

There’s a full spa offering massages, manicures, pedicures, facials and more. Did I mention the Tiki bar? My absolute favorite is the bonfires and smores at night after a relaxing moonlight walk on the beach.

While the Shores is a wonderful place to relax and write, I live in Pennsylvania and getting to Florida is most definitely an occasional treat. I am however truly blessed to be able to write full time in my nice (extremely messy right now) home office.

Thank God our beloved resort, my mothers and my sister in laws houses have come through Dorian fine. We are horrified for the Bahamian people and are praying for Georgia and the Carolinas.

How about you, where is your favorite place to write?

The awesome co-hosts for the September 4th posting of the IWSG are Gwen Gardner, Doreen McGettigan, Tyrean Martinson, Chemist Ken, and Cathrina Constantiner!

  1. I love the beach so much. The pictures are wonderful. I think I could write there too. My dream is to retire to the beach, though I’m not sure which one yet. I still have lots of time to figure it out 🙂 Happy IWSG Day.

  2. It looks nice, but I’m not good with the heat. I’d probably just stay indoors with the air conditioning all day and write while the rest of the family went off in search of sunshine. 🙂

Thanks for co-hosting this month’s IWSG post!

  3. Hi,

I have visited Daytona Beach but have never stayed there overnight. Florida seems to be a really cool place for writer overall. However, for me, I’d like a basement in a home anywhere in Europe.

Thank you so much for co-hosting.

  4. Thanks for co-hosting this month.
Great pictures. This resort sounds a little too relaxing for me. I’d love to visit there, but I think I’d get lazy with all those amenities. Glad it was a great experience for you and helped you finish a tough story.

  5. As I am visiting, reading, and commenting on our September IWSG blog hop, I’m listening to hurricane Dorian updates. My heart goes out to those in the Bahamas. Our east coast cities are bracing for flooding and strong winds.
I live on the West coast of Mexico. We have hurricanes, too. That is why the weather is on my mind as I prepare for the flip side of coastal paradise.
Your stay at Daytona Beach is absolutely heavenly and a good reminder of the good times.
Thanks for co-hosting September’s IWSG blog hop.

  6. Sounds like paradise! Lucky you. I love beaches. I love the ocean. I love mountains too. I’d love to write somewhere I could have both! Thanks for co-hosting!

  7. I wrote while cruising in the Pacific a few years back. What an adventure. And in spite of the many distractions, I did write and achieved my goal to finish several chapters. That was pure luxury, but until I find another pot of gold, I’ll be satisfied to sit in my office surrounded by my two dogs and a cat. Thanks for giving me an idea of vacationing at Daytona Shores. Sounds wonderful.

  8. I love Daytona Beach. My husband and I have a condo in New Smyrna, just below Daytona, where we winter for a few months. We’re always visiting Daytona because of the many stores, restaurants, and attractions. The sound of the Atlantic waves crashing in and lapping at the shore is peaceful and special–and lends itself to writing and creating.

  9. Daytona is a great place for a writing/spa retreat! My folks live in Deltona, inland a bit, and I love to visit in November when the temps are perfect for beach walking. Not so much in love with the hot months, though.

  10. If I had to pick any place or anything as a writing space, without a doubt, it’d be somewhere or something connected to JK Rowling and her Harry Potter book series. I’m sure I’ll be touched by the magic of it all. But the beach at sunset looks mighty tempting.
    Thanks for co-hosting! 😀

  11. Thank you, Doreen, for co-hosting — and for your thoughts on Dorian’s impact. We are still concerned about the Florida coast, but what happened in the Bahamas is devastating. My husband grew up in Philadelphia and loves to travel. We try to escape the snows of eastern Washington every year — and find new places to write. May you continue to find those sunny spas and dazzling sunrises to inspire your writing.

  12. Hi Doreen. Lovely to meet you. Thanks for your visit to my place. I enjoyed reading about your writing at the resort. What a lovely husband to think that for you. I’m glad it was such a wonderful experience.

  13. A well known resort with a view of the beach and a pool as well as a supportive husband – I’m sure that helped you solve some of your writing problems.Lovely.

  14. Thanks for co-hosting this month. That sounds like a truly gorgeous location. I have to admit that I truly admire your ability to write instead of read somewhere so wonderfully indulgent and relaxing.

  15. I find anywhere that involves travel is good for getting ideas. Including a good walk! But for writing, I need to be in my writing zone. Room service would be nice, but getting up to sort my next coffee is definitely better for the waistline.

  16. What a lovely place! And it obviously works for you to getting writing done. And kudos to your husband for being so supportive!

  17. Sounds like a wonderful place to visit and to write. Great your husband took you for a visit to finish your second book.
Thanks for co-hosting this month and visiting my blog.

  18. What a lovely place to take your muse for a visit. Kudos to your husband for the suggestion and support. Glad your relatives and the resort came through Dorian unscathed.

  19. Elizabeth Seckman

I could totally find my muse at a place like that. What a great view.

My husband needs to up his support game. LOL

  20. I agree, a week in that resort is a nice treat! If you are an early bird – and you are – I can see fitting in a few hours of writing every day. Otherwise, I’d be so excited to be on vacation that I’d do anything but write, like swim, walk, and read all day!

I’m so glad Florida and most of the US east coast got spared from Dorian, but poor and wonderful Bahamas… My little family actually had to sit out Dorian in our 19ft camper van, unexpectedly, in Canada. Crazy times!!

Thank you for co-hosting this month!
