Fems, Food, Favorites and Friday Fragments…

Friday Fragments are the bits and pieces of your week that are usually brief; too short for a stand-alone post, but too good to discard. Collect humorous observations, “Heard” items, and other small gems throughout your week and put them together in a Friday Fragments post. Add a recipe or something ‘foodie’ from your week. Leave me a link in the comments so I can read what you’ve been up to!

As sad as I am that summer 2017 is now getting smaller and smaller in the rear view mirror, fall has not yet officially arrived here in the Northeast. There are signs it’s about to happen, like the yellow leaves on the fairie tree in our back yard. I plan to enjoy every minute of the 70 degree weather this weekend.

We are headed to Linvilla Orchards for our annual ride to the Happy Witches House. I’m not sure how much longer our little granddaughters will want to do this so I’ll be taking in every moment and every smile. A photo of our girls on the hayride a few years ago is featured on Linvilla’s website. It was such a sweet memory.

It’s easier to adjust to fall when it involves fabulous TV. Aiden Turner is back as Poldark for season 3.

“Almost 40 years ago Ross Poldark galloped across the TV screens of millions of PBS viewers, vexing villains and winning female hearts in one of MASTERPIECE’s earliest hit series, Poldark. Now the gallant hero rides again.

Aidan Turner (The Hobbit) stars as Ross Poldark, a redcoat who returns to Cornwall after battle to discover that his father is dead, his lands are ruined, and his true love is engaged to another. Can Poldark change his destiny, restore his lost fortune, and reclaim his love?”

If you aren’t watching I highly recommend this as a binge watch.

Designated Survivor is back too!

Kiefer Sutherland stars as Tom Kirkman, a lower-level cabinet member who is suddenly appointed President of the United States after a catastrophic attack on the US Capitol during the State of the Union.

The show is a bit sappy but we still enjoy it. The show airs Wednesdays on ABC at 10:00pm.

Another favorite is Ray Donovan. The show started out with a shock we didn’t see coming this season. The series started with flashbacks showing us what happened. We are over the shock now and hope the show gets back to ‘real time.’

Ray Donovan is a man of many faces. His job as a problem fixer for the Hollywood elite has helped lift him out of the working class to within reach of the wealthy and powerful. But no amount of designer suits, sports cars or gold watches can completely mask his shady line of work, or his humble, blue collar roots. With his brothers always calling for help, his criminal father (Jon Voight) out of prison, demanding clients ( Susan Sarandon) Ray might be unable to shake his past.

This show airs Sundays on Showtime and is an addicting binge watch!

I couldn’t possibly leave out This Is Us. If you haven’t caught up with this one you are missing out on some of the best writing and acting on TV. And another of my all time favorites Survivor.

The other night I was honored to be a guest in the beautiful home of Chef Jacqueline Peccina Kelly. Along with other Fem City Philadelphia members we were treated to delicious food by Santuosa and friendship. Patricia Nogar of Living Well with Pat Nogar shared her secrets for creating an unforgettable Thanksgiving table. Leigh Struble Heckler of Via One Hope Wines gave a presentation and a tasting of some of her most impressive wines. Ruth Levitt Scott other- wise known as cupcake Ruth gave us a presentation on stepping up our baking with a bit of fireball or honey flavored whiskey. Executive Chef Kathy Gold (In The Kitchen Cooking School) showed off her skills with a knife and Lord do I wish I saw this presentation before I wrangled my hand with a lemon last summer. It was such a relaxing evening and one of the reasons I just love and appreciate Fem City and our president Jennifer Robinson (Purposeful Networking.)

When I saw the 7-day forecast included some nights in the 40’s, I pulled out the slow-cooker and surprised my husband and his best friend Terry with their favorite dish, beef stroganoff.

Ingredients:

½ cup of flour

3 tablespoons of Worstechire sauce

2 lbs of beef cubes cut in bite size pieces

2 teaspoons of sea salt

2 teaspoons of ground pepper

2 garlic cloves chopped

¼ cup of olive oil

1 stick of butter

1 large onion chopped

1 bag of wide egg noodles

8 ounces of cream cheese

8 ounces of sour cream

4 cups of beef broth

You can also add your favorite mushrooms.

Coat the beef with ½ the salt and pepper and the flour. Brown in ½ the olive oil. Add to slow cooker with the broth. Add ½ a stick of butter to fry pan and cook onions and garlic until clear. Add all including any melted butter to the slow cooker. If using mushrooms drain and add them. Cook on high for one hour and on low for 5 hours.

Cook egg noodles, drain (don’t rinse) and coat with ½ stick of butter. Set aside.

Cut cream cheese in cubes and add to slow cooker. Add sour cream and stir. Once cheese is melted add noodles, stir and serve with warm rolls.

My latest post for 1010 Park Place is My Favorite Fall Sweater. I’d love to know what you think of it:

What exciting thing are you doing this fall? What are you watching? Cooking?

Have a Blessed Weekend,

  1. Poldark, eh? I thought it looked good. The hubby wasn’t so interested, but I might have to override him on this one. =) We’re watching The Flash, Green Arrow, Supernatural, and Scorpions. We tried out a few others and they didn’t stick. There’s only so much time for TV anyway, right? 3 hours a week is about my quota.
