When Trayvon was killed, my husband and I were in Florida for a book- signing event. We stayed with my parents. The first news report we saw showed a photo, of a very tall person with missing teeth. The reporter said the person had been accused of burglaries, kicked out of school for fighting, was under the influence of drugs and he attacked a neighborhood watch captain who then shot his attacker in self-defense.
When they reported the person was seventeen-years-old I immediately felt so badly for the kid’s parents.
When we arrived home in Philadelphia a few days later I was confused by the photo’s of the sweet little black boy that was murdered by the white racist, profiling, neighborhood watchman. Everybody seemed to be weighing in on the incident.
I decided not to form any opinion on this case until more facts came out. A young man was dead, a police chief lost his job and another man and his family, were being vilified by the press and pretty much the entire country. Something did not seem right to me. Details were missing.

The truth came out about the 911 tape. It had been tampered with. Once again, NBC took it upon themselves to change the story to fit their own greedy needs. They gave no consideration, to a mother and father who were burying their son. They gave no consideration, to a young man who had blood on his hands. They did not care about right or wrong they just cared about power. They knew they were inciting black people, democrats and anyone else who doesn’t question facts before forming an opinion. They lied in order to drive the narrative of this story to suit their greed.

This is how NBC portrayed a segment of that conversation:
Zimmerman: This guy looks like he’s up to no good. He looks black.
And here is how it actually went down:
Zimmerman: This guy looks like he’s up to no good. Or he’s on drugs or something. It’s raining and he’s just walking around, looking about.
Dispatcher: OK, and this guy — is he black, white or Hispanic?
Zimmerman: He looks black.
NBC’s crime backfired because they were caught once again and the truth came out. People were hurt beyond repair. The American people were duped again and most of them don’t even realize it has happened.
The lazy, lying media would have us believe that there are lynch mobs of white men all across our country out there profiling and gunning down black men. The truth is [according to the FBI] is that 91% of black men murdered are murdered by other blacks. 9% of black murder victims are murdered by whites, Asians or Hispanics. 14% of white murders are committed by blacks. This is why black men are profiled. This is fact not racism. If that is going to change, these numbers have to change. Black men in leadership roles from our president, attorney general, mayors of our minority cities and towns, clergy members and civic leaders need to stop blaming and start leading. Black women need to stop making excuses and covering up bad behavior in their families, neighborhoods and schools. They need to start reporting and stop tolerating.
Jesse Jackson himself has said “When I look behind me in the dark and see a white man I am relieved.”
Black Caucus members keep bringing up the case of the black woman in Florida [Marissa Alexander]who was given twenty-years for firing a warning shot. Trying to compare her case to the Martin/Zimmerman case. I wish they could be fined for being irresponsible and blatantly lying. The truth is that woman left her house to get the gun and went back to her house fired a shot at her ex-husband who was in the living room with her children and missed him. That was attempted murder. She had the opportunity to flee, she did and then went back with a gun. She should have called the police. The case was tried and she was convicted in fifteen-minutes. When all the talk of the Trayvon/Zimmerman case started, her attorney’s asked for an appeal to use the Stand your Ground law. That request was denied because she left the home to get the gun. Trayvon also had the choice to stay and fight or to retreat and go home. He chose to fight. Would Zimmerman have shot him in the back? That would be murder.
My opinion after watching every second of the trial including the motions and reading, everything I could set my eyes on is the jury got this 100% correct and I am proud of them for their diligence, bravery and their respect of our justice system and law. We do not bring charges and prosecute people in this country based on emotion, we do it based on the law.
My heart breaks for Trayvon’s family and friends. I lost a loved one to violence and I know their pain will never end. I hope their good memories out weigh the bad ones and are a comfort to them. I hope those with an evil agenda and or selfish goals stop using them and the loss of their son to further their own evil plans.
Shame on the ‘fake’ journalists in this country and shame on the journalists with an agenda. Shame on the lazy main stream media that just copies and pastes stories together without doing any research at all. You are all embarrassing.
Where were Trayvon’s parents when he started to have problems? When he was caught stealing, doing drugs and fighting umpteen times. Did they not see their son’s facebook page? Where did he learn them and why wasn’t he taught that ‘cracker and the ‘n’ word are unacceptable? I don’t want to attack his parents but this would be a great conversation to have…
As parents of ALL kids, everywhere we need to stand in the gap and teach our kids moving forward that they must have respect for EVERY human being including teachers, law officers, business owners and even neighborhood watch volunteers.
