Friday Favorites, Flops and Food

1 week = 7 days = 168 hours = 10,080 minutes = 604,800 seconds

I know its cliché, but the weeks seem to be floating by leaving me feeling like I’m missing something or not living life to the fullest. One of my goals for this year is to slow my days down and to be present and mindful of every minute. Another goal is to enjoy each season. Friday is a great day to take some time to reflect on my favorites, flops and food over the past week.

What were your favorites, flops and what was the best thing you ate this week?

Favorites:

I’m never sad to see the month of April go. This year the month held up its rainy reputation. The rain didn’t ruin any of our plans, this week!

On Sunday my husband surprised me with Phillies tickets. It rained all morning, so we packed plastic ponchos just in case. The attendant wiped our wet seats and although cloudy we enjoyed the Phanatic’s Birthday Party which included an impressive magic show, a giant cake, and visits from all his best mascot friends including Gritty!

Once the game started the sun was shining bright. We didn’t get to see a Harper Homerun but we did get to see Bryce give the Phanatic new shoes for his birthday. The Phillies beat the Marlins and we had a great time!

Continuing with the weeks sports theme, the 76’ers won and won again! There’s a bunch of folks betting against them but this is a city of winning underdogs!

I’m on a committee for the Victorious Woman’s Girlfriend Gala.

The event is one of my favorite nights out all year! The event supports a scholarship for a nontraditional female college student. This is my 5th year on the committee and I enjoy the work, and the girlfriends on the committee almost as much as the gala. We wrapped up raffle baskets and filled swag bags at the Gala’s founder, Annmarie Kelly’s (Author of The Five Year Marriage) home. The event is next Wednesday! I have no idea what I’m going to wear😊

This week marked the anniversary of the loss of my brother David and John’s son, John. The day never gets easier but what warms my heart are the many messages of support and the shared memories with family and friends. A hole in my heart was filled by a hug from someone I’ve been missing for 8-years. It felt so good.

I LOVE babies!

I’m looking forward to the Royal Baby announcement, any day now. What’s your guess, boy or girl? I’m going with girl. Charlotte needs a little girl cousin.
Me and John met our brand- new great niece Meadow Margaret yesterday. She’s so beautiful and her Mom, Maribeth and Dad Michael said she’s a wonderful sleeper. They didn’t even look tired.

I loved the movie, Love Takes Flight.

In the Hallmark Hall of Fame Presentation, single-mom Lizzie Beauman is encouraging when her young daughter unexpectedly befriends a widower named Walter as part of her Mission: Find a Friend. Stars Nikki DeLoach and Jeff Hephner. . It made me so teary in happy and sad ways.

We decided not to watch Idol this season after the first episode frustrated us because they drug each singer out for SO long, but we loved the special on Adam Lambert and Queen.

AAAANNNDDD I had an exciting writer life week.

Please say a little prayer or send good thoughts my way…

Flops

Verizon Fios-

I don’t like to do a bad review, but it shouldn’t take 2-hours to renew your cable contract. After researching for a week, I knew exactly what package I wanted so it should have been a breeze. The man on the other end of the phone told me there was no such package. We went round and round again for 2-hours and I ended up with what I wanted. When I questioned his dishonesty, he blew it off. When he told me, I had to pay $15 each for new remotes that I pay rent on, I lost my mind and cancelled everything. A manager apologized and overnighted me a remote. I’m thrilled-NOT- after 11-years of loyal service and thousands of dollars.

Verizon-

Robo calls on my cell phone. Please make it STOP!

The 76’ers

Ben Simmons’ rumored spit with Kendall Jenner could be fueling either his power shots or his low blows. Check out this video. Was it on purpose or not? What do you think? Watch here.

Allergies-

I have Celiac disease and so many allergies. I woke up this morning with my eyes swollen shut. My worst allergies are cut grass, pollen and mold. That hot dog I ate at the Phillies game was delicious but made me so sick. I don’t cheat often and sometimes it’s not so bad, not this week.

Food

My diet wasn’t too good this week and it left me feeling sick, so I didn’t cook much. We’re trying to only drink water but treat ourselves occasionally with my favorite sweet tea. Whenever I serve it, I get so many compliments and it’s so easy to make.

Sweet Tea

6- British Blend tea bags
1-cup of organic non- GMO, non- bleached sugar
Lemon or mint to garnish

Boil 2 quarts of water. Add sugar and stir until dissolved. Add tea bags and cover. Let sit for 2-hours. Fill 1-gallon container with cold water. Remove tea bags from pot and pour tear into gallon container. Shake well and refrigerate for 2-hours. Pour over ice and garnish with lemon, mint, or raspberry.
How was your week?
Have a blessed weekend,
Doreen

  1. Let’s see, the great stuff this week. Book Club is always fun. A wonderfully interesting group of woman. Love that they’re from Britain, Austrailia, Brazil and the USA. Makes for diferent perspectives. Love it. Also just published my art web site. http://www.sandrasallin.com Also I have committed to exercising every day. That means walking. It really feels good. Bad stuff? I’m sorry my brother in law is ill. That’s about it. Verizon, I would have lost it!!!! I can’t even imagine!

  2. It sounds like a pretty great week! Tickets to the Phillies, How fun is that? And a great writer’s week? Congratulations! Sorry about the Verizon trouble… we ‘ve had those conversations too. The royals? I’m guessing a girl and that she will be born today.
