FRIDAY FRAGMENTS
Friday Fragments are bits and pieces of your week that are usually brief; too short for a stand-alone post, but too good to discard. Collect humorous observations, “Heard” items, and other small gems (hint: a notebook is helpful) and put them together in a Friday Fragments post. Then leave a link to your Friday Fragments post in the comments…
We’ve been having the most unusually warm winter and deep in my gut I knew…it was coming.
After 70 degree weather yesterday we woke up to light snow this morning. It’s still snowing and we will most likely end up with 3 inches here just south of Philadelphia. And YIKES it looks like this is headed our way:
I recently joined a community of business women, Fem City Philadelphia and I am so glad I did. The president, Jennifer Robinson is an inspiring professional. I went to my second event with the organization the other night. Spring Splash was a pop up fashion sale and show presented by a local magazine, Main Line Today and benefited Breast Cancer and the Veterans organization Suit Up. I finally got to wear a purple wrap that I love. It was fun to take a shift femming the table with Tito Ogunsola-Smith.
Speaking of veterans, has anyone been watching the series SIX on History? If you haven’t watched I highly recommend the first season as a binge watch. The season finale was on the other night and I had to remind myself to breathe several times. The show is an authentic portrayal of SEAL TEAM SIX and what these Seals do to protect and serve and also gives us a look at what their personal lives look like and the sacrifices they and their families make. The cast and crew are impressive and I am predicting some well deserved awards.
It seems like a theme for us this season. Between SIX, The Americans, Designated Survivor, 24-Legacy and Homeland it a wonder we don’t have nightmares.
That’s why I watch the Housewives. They give my brain a break.
Last Saturday I spoke for a local chapter of AAUW (American Association of University Woman.) What a fun, kind and gracious group. I am looking forward to speaking for their other chapters.
I am headed to the shore this weekend (thank you SO much to my sister-in-law Dee for the use of her beautiful home,) to hopefully finish writing Realize Your Writing Dreams. It will be freezing cold but there is nothing like the peace and quiet of the shore in the winter.
Because I don’t make it for him enough, I wanted to surprise John with his favorite, Beef Stroganoff. It was so good and the perfect meal for the cold front headed our way.
1 pound of beef cubes
1 package of egg noodles cooked
2 tablespoons of chopped garlic
1 chopped onion
2 tablespoons of black course pepper
2 tablespoons of sea salt
4 slices of cooked bacon crumbled
16 ounces of sour cream
1 package of cream cheese
1 can of cream of chicken or cream of mushroom soup (I used chicken because I am allergic to mushrooms)
1 stick of butter
Optional- can of mushrooms
Melt the butter in large frying pan. Add onions and garlic. Cook for 2 minutes and add beef. Brown and simmer on low for 5-minutes.
Turn slow cooker on high. Add soup, 1 can of milk, salt and pepper. Stir well and then add beef mixture. Stir. Turn slow cooker temperature down to low. Cook for 5 ½ – 6 hours -stirring occasionally.
Add cream cheese (cut in squares) and sour cream. If using mushrooms add now. Stir until smooth. Add cooked noodles. I stirred 2 tablespoons of butter into the noodles before adding them to the sauce. Stir and heat 15-more minutes. Garnish with crumpled bacon.
John and I went to see The Shack. I liked the book but will admit it took me a long time to finish reading. A lot of it confused me. The movie was produced well and flowed better than the book. I cried through the whole thing, sad and very happy tears. It’s always a good sign when the audience cheers and then stays seated until the last credit rolls. Go see it, you will feel better after you do.
Have a Blessed Weekend,
Doreen

I am with you on the RH shows giving a brain break and boy, do we need that! The Shack was very poorly written. But it was all the buzz a few years back. Maybe I’ll see the film.
The movie is SO much better than the book.
Those are fragments! Sounds like you had a good week!
Its been busy for sure!
We were supposed to get snow this weekend, but so far, nothing, and I’m glad with that! Our temperatures have really been all over the map lately. Highs in the 70s, then plunging down to the 30. I hope things will start to even out soon.
We ended up with about 5 inches and a bunch of ice. It was pretty but now just a mess.
