The first Wednesday of every month is officially
Insecure Writer’s Support Group day #IWSG
Post your thoughts on your own blog. Talk about your writing doubts and the fears you have or have conquered. Discuss your struggles and triumphs. Offer a word of encouragement for others who are struggling. Visit others in the group and connect with your fellow writer – aim for a dozen new people each time.
Purpose: To share and encourage. Writers can express doubts and concerns without fear of appearing foolish or weak. Those who have been through the fire can offer assistance and guidance. It’s a safe haven for insecure writers of all kinds!

Let’s rock the neurotic writing world!
It is also Writing Wednesday
Writing Wednesday is the day I like to share what I have learned on my journey from writing to publishing to marketing my first book and then doing it again. The type of information I wish someone would have shared with me, back then.
Summer Writing Slow Down
I am officially fighting the summer writing slow down. Of course it would hit me when I have a final draft deadline for my 3rd book on August 1st, my second book being released in September and numerous freelance projects that are due in July. Yikes.
There is no good excuse for me not sitting down to write because I am on medical leave from my day job.
The only thing I have to blame is the summer. I want to sit by the water with my husband, walk through the park, play with my grandchildren and take naps.
I’ve been sleeping in and it feels so good but it must stop. I’m writing it and saying it out loud. I will be in my chair writing from 6am-10am. No social media, no e-mail, no phones, just piling up the word count. I think I can make it work if I give myself some time each day to enjoy being outside or taking a nap.
I can do this, right?
Do you neglect your blog and your writing once the thermostat heats up? If I didn’t have these deadlines I would allow myself to slow down for a few weeks. How about you?
Happy Writing,
Doreen

It’s hot and I’m doing more revising than writing. I’m keeping my toe in and that’s something.
Here’s my link if you’d like to drop by 🙂

revising is a tough job, good for you!
Summer is made for lounging. Why waste it? lounge away! Refresh, regenerate.
That settles that I’m taking a nap!
I want the pink typewriter in that picture! Love that. I have a retro sewing machine but it’s not pink like that.
Nothing like deadlines to make you want to take naps and sit by the beach. Summer and its woes 🙂
I want that pink typewriter so bad!
I definitely do, but in my case, I’m letting my journalism assignments overwhelm me. Once I’m done my work for the day, I just want to relax.
But I also really want my WIP to be finished by the time I leave for Europe, so I have to get my butt in gear. I don’t think there’s anything wrong with living a little in the summer, though. Life is short! Enjoy it. 🙂
For me I am starting to think it is more of a case of being overwhelmed.
It seems the world of blogging moves in slow motion come summer. Stats are down, motivation even lower. Enjoy the sleeping in—you’ve earned it!
Yep, naps are healthy. I read that on your blog today!:)
The time of year doesn’t really affect how much I slack off on writing. I guess I get too caught up in writing (or procrastination) to notice the weather outside.
That procrastination is so annoying!
Of course, you can do this!!! Here … let’s share some writing verve. #stretchingacrosscyberspace The summer months can be tough to stick to your writing schedule, especially if you live in an area where it’s predominantly winter. (Like where I live.)
The winter was so bad here too. I am getting out for a break today. In the long run it always helps my creativity to step away for a bit.
Huh…just the opposite for me in the summer. I power write and get as much done as I can because with six kids, September through June is CRAZY busy. Dig in and get it done…but do take time to destress!
6 kids oh my but then again I have 5. I remember Sept-May, mine are all grown and flown now so I don’t have that excuse. I am taking a nap and then writing like crazy:)
It’s a struggle. Maybe I should just succumb to it and take a break. Or, maybe, get out of bed! Ah.

LOL I hear you!
I believe we all need that recharge. Your brain has been bumped and battered and honestly, Doreen, all the “shoulds” in the world be damned — honor that need for rest and rejuvenation. Everything else will be better for it.
I started working in a bit of sanctioned down time every day and am actually less apathetic once I get myself to the keyboard!
Dammit I am taking a nap!
Our brains work like waves: sometimes up, sometimes down. Don’t fight it; go with the flow. The down is good for you too, it lets you rest.
I am definitely taking a nap!
Writing is hit and miss during the summer, but I’ve found that writing poolside can be very productive. My kids are happy for hours and need very little from me at the pool. It’s the perfect time to soak in some sun, write, cool off in teh water, write, etc.
Good luck with revisions and your fall release!
I am definitely planning to write on the beach this summer.
Love the beach pic! I’m not good for forcing myself to write – it seems I have to really force myself and that’s no fun lol. I love writing when I’m inspired. I feel it’s my best work. Thanks much for another informative post! Love these!
Thank you Carolann. My best writing definitely comes from inspiration too.
I can’t wait to read more of your blog. Thanks for reaching out to me with your support. I started reading your memoir last night and I can’t wait to finish it. I’ve struggled with my own personal tragedy and have sometimes wondered if knowing it was caused by malicious human acts makes it worse to cope with. I’m looking forward to reading about your perspective.
Thank you so much Tess. I definitely believe humans harming humans makes it so much worse to cope with. Writing your story can be painful at times but it absolutely helps with closure.
