Friday Fragments are bits and pieces of your week that are usually brief; too short for a stand-alone post, but too good to discard. Collect humorous observations, “Heard” items, and other small gems and put them together in a Friday Fragments post. Then leave a link to your Friday Fragments post and leave a link back to our host at Half-Past Kissin’ Time in your post.
I would love to read your Fragment’s. Sign up here:

Good Day Philadelphia featured one of my tweets on Thursday. Of course I was at work so I didn’t have a chance to record it. They were doing a feature on superstitions and the things you do for luck. I am very superstitious. For thirty-years I have been wrapping my lottery tickets in the largest bills I have for luck. I haven’t had much luck with that but now I’m afraid to stop.
Anyway, the tweet they chose was this one:
*We always have hot dogs, wear our jersey’s and have our rally towels handy when the Phillies play a home game. Sometimes the ritual works and sometimes it doesn’t.*
Do you have any superstitions, rituals or prayers that you say for luck?
Last week the sad news seemed to be endless. I read a lot of blog posts during the week, I’m on Twitter and I have too many news apps on my phone so it’s hard for me to ignore. The shooting in Santa Barbara was horrific. It appears they were so close to preventing it and blew the chance. The news itself is sad enough but wow, the way unprofessional news people (I cannot even call them journalist) spin these tragic events never ceases to shock me. One thing they never report on when it comes to mass shootings is the fact that every single one of these ‘killers’ had one thing in common that NO one ever mentions:
Manasquan, NJ –-(Ammoland.com)- Nearly every mass shooting incident in the last twenty years, and multiple other instances of suicide and isolated shootings all share one thing in common, and its not the weapons used.
The overwhelming evidence suggests the single largest common factor in all of these incidents is that all of the perpetrators were either actively taking powerful psychotropic drugs or had been at some point in the immediate past before they committed their crimes.
Two other horrific stories that I cannot get out of my head are the story of Meriam Yehya Ibrahim who is in an African (Sudan) prison where she just gave birth to a baby girl. Her twenty-month-old-son is also with her. She is in prison because she is a Christian and refused to convert to Islam. Her own brother lobbied the charges against her, claiming her father was a Muslim. She has been sentenced to death and will be executed once her newborn is done nursing. Her husband also a Christian has not been able to see them, nor has he been arrested. Honestly, at times like this I lose all faith in our Christian leaders. Why are they not banding together and leading us in this real war against women. I want to do something!!

| Sudanese woman sentenced to die for Christian faith to be freed, report says
The Sudanese woman sentenced to death earlier this month after refusing to renounce her Christian faith will reportedly be freed in the next few days. |
The other story is even more confusing. Farzana Parveen, three –months pregnant married a widower without the consent of her father. Her father, brothers and cousins [29 men in all] beat her to death, calling it an honor killing. Her husband killed his other wife so he could marry Farzana. The Pakastani government has ordered a full investigation.
The United Nations estimates 5,000 women are murdered worldwide by family members each year in “honor killings,” so named because the woman’s actions are considered to have brought shame on her family. But women’s advocacy groups say the crime is underreported and the figure could be around 20,000 a year.
The VA scandals also have me upset. My husband is a disabled veteran and I have written numerous posts over the years on how terribly broken the VA medical system is and how badly our nation’s heroes are treated.
On Sunday we have a double birthday party. Our granddaughter Adriana is five-years-old and Peyton Elizabeth is turning four. I have something special planned for them next week. It’s a secret so I will tell you more about that later.
On Monday it was 89 degrees. We went for a long motorcycle ride and stopped at Rita’s for water ice. It was officially, Spring in the greater Philadelphia area. On Thursday it was 55 degrees. That was mean Mother Nature, very mean.
I was so sad to hear of Maya Angelou’s passing. I have her quotes all over my office but this is one of my favorites:
I need a beach!
Have a Blessed Weekend,
Doreen

Have a great weekend and enjoy the warm temps.
Thank you, you have a great weekend too.
How cool about the featured tweet! I love that kind of stuff.
All that bad news can certainly get overwhelming.
It was awesome and unexpected!
Maya Angelou certainly inspired many–I’ve read plenty of quotes from her this week, and not of them have been repeats!
Until your post, I mistakenly thought those two women were one in the same (only heard bits and pieces). Heartbreaking on both accounts.
I used to have lots of superstitions, but I don’t have any these days.
Thanks for linking up, Doreen!
She had a beautiful way with words.
I agree about too much news. Too much BAD news…
Yes it is mostly bad. 🙁
Even though it makes no sense to me what-so-ever, I don’t like the number 13. Wrapping lottery tickets in large bills? I never heard that before but on benefit is you don’t spend the large bills.
My husband swears 13 is his luckiest number.
Haha, it does help hold onto those large bills but let me clarify that those large bills are just the largest
in my wallet at the time and could be 5’s, 10’s or 20’s:)
I too have been stunned and saddened by the amount of violence lately. And yes, all religious leaders need to speak out against the inhumanity of this sentence and in support of this woman and her family. Just sad.
Traci
There seems to be a new case everyday. Very scary.
I watch the cable news networks for national news and political discussions, but I can’t stand to watch the local news and much of the national news because it is just beyond horrible. So sad. However, I am so, so glad that they are freeing the Sudanese woman. Thank God! I couldn’t bear to think about her poor children. As it is, it’s so sad that her son has had to spend his early childhood in prison.
I hope she is planning to get out of that country, with her family.
Local news can get on my nerves too.
I believe that if my palm itches it means money is coming my way and if I scratch the itch the money will not come.
I absolutely believe that one too!!
