Networking #IWSG

It is time for the monthly meeting of the Insecure Writers Support Group. No matter where you are in your writing journey chances are you occasionally have feelings of insecurity. No worry’s, link up and find all of the support you could possibly ask for. If you are in a good place perhaps you have some inspiration to share let’s face it we all feel the need for a bit of support from our friends.

It has been quite awhile since I have felt secure, not just in my writing but in life. It has been a tough two years. My second book is over a year late. I am finally getting back on track and I reached the half-way point in the editing for The Stranger in My Recliner. I must be feeling extra secure because I committed to have it finished by the end of the month. That wasn’t enough so I decided to enter the A-to-Z Challenge for the third –year.

I have always worked better under pressure. I try to be more organized these days but life does have a way of getting in the way. That has to stop. I learned while writing my first book that I have to stick to some semblance of a writing schedule.

A daily word count is hard for me to keep up with especially on the days I work twelve-hour-shifts at my out of the house job.  Weekly word counts work so much better for me.

Another thing that works for me is networking with other writers, in real life. Networking online is important too but getting out with people and having actual conversations is not only healthy it is a great source of inspiration.

I belong to two- writers groups. HotPenz7 is a small closed group of writers and speakers. My favorite thing about this group is we always meet for Happy Hour. When we do not have a media type thing to do we talk for hours. I always leave bursting with ideas. I also belong to and am on the board of our chapter of the Press Club. If you have a local affiliate I highly suggest you join. Not only is it fun, it is educational.  The actual ‘writing’ group I belong to is called Lower Bucks Creative Explorers. This group has a lot of talent.  We have all genres represented in this group as well as screen writers, playwrights, painters, illustrators and artists. We meet every other week and we write for an hour and then read and critique for two hours.

Most writers tend to be introverts and I am no exception. It was extremely difficult when I started attending all of these groups but I cannot imagine not having them now.

What out of your house groups do you belong to?

I would love to connect with you here too:
