Worry

Definition from Merriam-Webster-

Verb– Give way to anxiety or unease; allow one’s mind to dwell on difficulty or troubles.

Noun– A state of anxiety and uncertainty, over actual or potential problems.

After reading yet another article on the correlation between worry and disease, I decided once and for all give up worrying as one of my New Year’s goals.

I still cannot get over the fact that I spent my entire life in a constant state of worry, until now. For some crazy reason I thought if I worried enough I could stop ‘something bad’ from happening. The truth is worrying cannot change the outcome of any imagined or impending disaster. Worrying is simply a waste of time.

Now when I feel myself starting to worry I simply think about something positive. If that doesn’t work I make a list of possible solutions to the problem. When we use our energy to focus on solutions instead of doom we can move forward to accomplishment.

The simple practice of doing something, when something can be done and accepting and moving on when nothing can be done verses worrying has made a huge difference for me.

Worry does not empty tomorrow of its sorrow. It empties today of its strength.
