Blog Branding
Branding is not a new term or idea however, in the past it was a concept used by those in the advertising and marketing industries to raise consumer awareness of a product, service or company.
Lately, the concept has exploded into the mainstream. It seems every student, mommy, grandparent, dog, cat, writer, and politician; heck, anyone with a blog these days needs a brand.
A brand is a name, term, design, symbol or jingle that identifies you, your goods or services as distinct from those of other sellers. [Wikipedia]
When I started my blog three years ago, it never occurred to me to have a plan. This startles me a bit now because I normally don’t load the dishwasher without a detailed plan. I didn’t give target audiences, themes or schedules a first thought let alone a second thought.
The reason I never considered a plan is because I started my blog to journal my writing journey and keep up to date with my grandchildren.
Fast forward to today, I’ve become a published author with a second book due out later this year, the owner of a marketing company and a freelance journalist.
Help I need a brand!
I found some tips at http://www.brandyourself.com
I’ve learned that I am off to a good start because my name, book title and blog title come up in Google searches.
*Can I explain what I do and why I do it in 30 seconds or less?
*Do I keep quality vs. quantity in mind when posting?
*Do I appear confident?
*What have I done that the average person hasn’t?
*Before someone buys what I’m selling I have to offer them something worth their time.
*Personal relationships are important.
*Be trustworthy. Appropriately cite, credit and list where you obtained your information.
*Am I authentic and humble?
*Be consistent. Write what you know or what you want to learn.
* Am I consistent?
*Am I taking risks?
It looks like I have my work cut out for me. How about you, have you considered your brand?
What have you learned about me during your visit here?
