I hope you all had a nice break on Sunday. For the letter I ; I chose the word: INTREPID
My husband told me his father all throughout his life wanted a houseboat. My husband went into the Air Force right after High School. While he was away his father bought a houseboat, in New Jersey. He wanted to dock the Houseboat in Daytona Beach, Florida.
He decided the Inter Coastal Waterway was the best route. The Waterway is a 3000 mile(4800-km) waterway along the Atlantic and Gulf Coasts of the United States. Some lengths consists of natural inlets, salt water rivers, bays and sounds. Others are man made canals. It provides a navigable route along its length without many of the hazards of the open sea.
So. They. Say.
John’s friend Danny Reilly and Frank’s(FIL) friend, Joe Lambert prepared for the maiden voyage of the Intrepid. Michael Harkins (BIL) made sure the engine was in good running order, and off they sailed.
Not too long into their voyage Frank, the captain, ran into a rare Intercoastal storm. 8 foot waves were beating against the Intrepid. Danny Riley, who was 18 at the time, said Mr.McGettigan are we going to make it through this”? Frank, of course not wanting to frighten everyone assured them they would be fine. Frank told John it had been the first time he realized what captain’s really go through and the decisions they have to make. The responsibility for other lives.
The crew ran into other difficulties, engine trouble and such but Mike Harkins was a talented mechanic and they finally arrived at their destination, The former Daytona Beach Yacht Club.
While Frank was detailing this story to John, he asked John if he knew the definition of Intrepid.
In-trep-id: Resolutely fearless, dauntless, brave, courageous and bold. Unable to be defeated.
The marketing/pr firm handling the local marketing for “Bristol boyz Stomp” is Intrepid Marketing, Inc. which happens to be owned by my husband, John.
I think I chose a great captain.
