Day 6 the ‘F’ Word…

I am so bad I have been dying to type that…

Day 6 of the A-Z Blogging Challenge

http://tossingitout.blogspot.com

So the word I chose is FOLLOWER.  My blog is just a little over a year old.  I had no idea what to expect and honestly I thought a blog was just a free websight.  I wrote a book and it was going to be published.  My dear writer friend Molly, who was in her 80’s told me in order to sell books you must have a blog.  She also told me I needed to be on Facebook and Twitter.   Molly gave me tons of advice.  Her advice about FOLLOWER’S was brilliant.  She said do not ever think you are all that and can only have “in the biz” type FOLLOWERS.  You need them for support and education but in order to sell books you need to connect with people that buy books.  That made so much sense to me and I have tried to keep a diverse group of FOLLOWERS and I have tried to be a good FRIEND and FOLLOW back.

My husband’s niece Kate, who was on a quest to become a published author, also had a blog. She made it all look so easy.  She shared inspiration and her heartache.  When she finally landed a book deal, she shared her joy.

I said a complete Rosary for that girl for an entire month.  I had never done that for anyone else.

So I will never forget that first week of blogging.  ‘C’ mon… you all know what I mean it was all about the FOLLOWERS!  I begged, pleaded and bribed my family and friends to FOLLOW.  I linked my blog to Facebook every hour.  When my kids told me I was annoying it hurt my feelings.  Didn’t these people know I wrote a book (a very hard one to write too).  Hello, can I get a little support here… please.  I mean seriously how hard is it to put you cursor over that little box with the word FOLLOW in it and click?  Okay you may have to add your e-mail; big deal.  And while we are on the subject would it really hurt that much to leave a comment every now and then…rather than stalking?

I had to quickly get over myself and head back to start and examine why I created a blog in the first place.  I did not start it to be the leader of a bunch of FOLLOWERS (although I love and appreciate each and every one of you and want more).  I started a blog because my friend Molly told me I needed to because I had a story to tell.  Doesn’t everyone?

RIP Molly XXXOOO
