Public Relations (PR) Part 5- Promotional Materials
The time to think about what promotional items you will need to promote your book/blog is when you are writing your marketing plan. Promotional materials can be part of your PR plan so remember you want whatever you choose to show you as an author and your book/blog in a good light. All of your products should coordinate. When ordering products remember to order enough for any conferences you are planning to attend, networking events, book signings and your launch party.
I custom created postcards for each location I had a book signing but I used the same colors so they all had a similar look.
It is easy to overspend on promotional items; they can be fun but try to stick with your budget.
Product ideas:
Table cloths for book signings
Banners/ posters
Post cards
Letterhead
Business cards
Book markers
Pens
Key chains
T-shirts
Mugs
Note pads
Journals
There are many promotional material companies to choose from so do some comparison shopping. I have used and recommend Vista Print, Café Press and Moo. I have also used an independent local company and was happy with the convenience and the quality.

Great ideas! I use Gotprint.com for most of my printing for my business. I own a personal training studio and have used bookmakers with our logo on one side and healthy website on the back. Thanks for the ideas!
Jeez Doreen, I don’t have any besides business/blog cards from Moo. You’ve got me thinking that it is time to promote my blog a different way and start accepting advertising along with marketing products that are directly related to the blog. I’m bookmarking this one. Thanks.

I always learn something from your posts Doreen. I’ve got a book coming out next month, so I can use plenty of advice. Postcards to promote the publication party are a great idea. My terrific publisher, I believe is already on that. (And she’s having business cards made that contain all the relevant info about the book.)
