The
Challenge:
Write
a blog post in 200 words or less, excluding the title. It can be in any format,
whether flash fiction, non-fiction, humorous blog musings, poem, etc. The blog
post should:
- include the word
“imago” in the
title
- include the
following 4 random words: “miasma,”
“lacuna,” “oscitate,” “synchronicity,”
If you want to give yourself an added challenge (optional and included in the word
count), make reference to a mirror in your post.
For those who want an even greater challenge (optional), make your post 200 words
EXACTLY! I did all of the above!
Imago in the mirror
“He is not her real father.” My cousin blurted. The others quickly
chimed in, Mark cocky as ever, “ I’ve known for years.” I crept out into the darkness. My head
spinning, I stopped and vomited over the curb.
All those years of
looking in the mirror I desperately wanted to see an imago. I could never be his daughter.
There was no way around
the miasma. The smell of dirty pampers as you drive north on I-95. Traffic would dead stop there. I turned on 1060 the ‘go to’ station for
traffic. I fumbled for something to cover my face. A gaper delay made me smile. Only in Philadelphia. It reminded me of oscitate, to yawn or gape.
The lacuna of my life had been filled.
My trip was rewarding. The synchronicity was magical.
I found a stash of
cancelled checks in my mother’s drawer.
Phil Martin signed the checks. He
was my father. I arranged to meet him. He armed me with evidence anddirty secrets on everyone. The power
I felt was intoxicating. I was not the only one with a liar for a mother. The best revenge is happiness. I would be
happy planning my revenge.
You all are going to think I have a mother issue..Guess you will have to read my book:)
