Victim: One who is harmed in some way or killed by another.

This is a subject I unfortunately know too much about.  This week is National Victims Rights Week. Here in Bucks County , Pennsylvania we have a victims arbor and gazebo in one of our State Parks.  Every Thursday during Victims Rights week we gather there to honor those murdered and/or assaulted.  We also gather to support the loved ones of those Victims.  It is always a moving ceremony.  This year marks the 12th event for my family.  12 years ago my brother was murdered in a random Road Rage attack.  His crime: driving to slow and stopping at stop signs.

Crimes associated  with  Road Rage are becoming more and more frequent.  These drivers are bully’s with 4000 pound weapons.  Never; ever get into an altercation with another driver on the road.  If they are tailgating you, move so they can pass.

Do not use any hand gestures or make eye contact as this can be taken as a sign of aggression.  If the person continues to tailgate you or perform any other unsafe maneuvers, drive to the nearest Police Station and beep your horn.  Do your best to get a description of the other vehicle and driver including the plate number if and only if it is safe to do so.

Always assume a bully behind the wheel has some sort of weapon.

This advice also goes for any type of bully.  If it is happening to you,  you must find your voice and tell EVERYONE . Never allow yourself to be alone around a bully.  Always have someone with you.   Once they realize you are not going to be a victim they usually move on.  Always pay attention to your surroundings.  Have your phone or your keys in your hand.  Never; ever let someone put you in their car.  Pretend to pass out.  They most likely will not want to carry dead weight.  If they do,  gouge their eyes with your fingers or keys and run as fast as you can screaming.  Girls if a guy is trying to take you into his car…aim and kick as hard as you can.  This will give you a minute or two to run and scream for help.

Always scream fire.  Never scream help or rape.  Those words scare people off, but fire , everyone wants to be a hero.

Always remember if someone is hurting or bullying you; TELL EVERYONE!

If you are an adult; do not be embarrassed.  YOU never deserve to be mis-treated in any situation by anyone.
