Congratulations LM Preston on your new book Flutter of Luv and thank you for including us on your Blog Tour!!
Stretching Boundaries
As a writer, I’ve stayed in my comfort zone the last few books. Thanks to a great critique group (Columbia Writers) I was challenged to step outside my normal genre and try something new. To write something different. The idea for Flutter Of Luv came from a writing prompt initiated for an anthology my writer’s group wanted to publish. I decided that for the first time ever (for me that is) I’d write in first person. Also, I’d write something that shined a bit on my life growing up in the city. So, Flutter Of Luv, was written completely out of my comfort zone. I aimed at writing a teenaged love story from the first person perspective of a young girl who happened to be a tomboy. I was rather insecure about this undertaking and when I shared it with my critique group I got awesome feedback on the first Episode (3 pages). However, when I shared it with my daughter, she was ecstatic and told me I should write a short story in pieces like Episodes that only share the story when something interesting happened. Therefore, I broke through many of my own boundaries and wrote in first person, completed my first ever short story, and experimented with a new writing format.
Excerpt: Flutter Of Luv
Tony whispered to Rodney, “Is she okay? Does she talk?”
No way did he just ask Rodney if I was normal? Shoot me now. My eyes
started to water I was so humiliated. Thank God for my glasses that hid my
girly shame. And the truth was, I still couldn’t form two words around this
guy.
