The first Wednesday of every month is officially Insecure Writer’s Support Group day. Post your thoughts on your own blog. Talk about your doubts and the fears you have conquered. Discuss your struggles and triumphs. Offer a word of encouragement for others who are struggling. Visit others in the group and connect with your fellow writer – aim for a dozen new people each time – and return comments. This group is all about connecting!

Be sure to link to this page and display the badge in your post. And please be sure your avatar links back to your blog! Otherwise, when you leave a comment, people can’t find you to comment back. Let’s rock the neurotic writing world! Our Twitter handle is @TheIWSG and hashtag is #IWSG.

Every month, we announce a question that members can answer in their IWSG post. These questions may prompt you to share advice, insight, a personal experience or story. Include your answer to the question in your IWSG post or let it inspire your post if you are struggling with something to say.

Remember, the question is optional! August 5 question – Quote:

“Although I have written a short story collection, the form found me and not the other way around. Don’t write short stories, novels or poems. Just write your truth and your stories will mold into the shapes they need to be.”

Have you ever written a piece that became a form, or even a genre, you hadn’t planned on writing in? Or do you choose a form/genre in advance? Although my dream was to write historical romance, I started my writing career as a journalist covering politics and entertainment. When my brother was murdered in a random road rage attack, the journal I kept during that dark time became my first book.  When my husband brought an 80-year-old homeless woman to our house late one night and we couldn’t find anyone to take her in, she lived with us for 3 years, her story became my second book. Finally after years of writing in the unplanned genre of nonfiction, I pulled out an old historical romance WIP that has been waking me out of sound sleeps for thirty-years. Around that time I started a feature on my blog, Writing Wednesday. Each week I would give tips on writing, publishing, and marketing books.  I received comments and emails asking me to write a book based on those posts, so I did. Realize your Writing Dreams is out now, and it’s .99! I suppose it’s safe to say my entire writing career has not been the career I imagined, but honestly I wouldn’t change a thing. That said, this week I’ll be dusting off that old WIP, again. How about you? Are you writing in your planned genre? I was interviewed for this article in #PopCulture magazine. So cool! https://popculturepress.org/2020/08/dynamic-female-entrepreneurs-find-the-silver-linings-that-will-inspire-all-of-us/?fbclid=IwAR1RK-HA5XgiIiyVOEaIKdNiwDW4MV-hKIRYB9gl4EoLQbkLu_-UxMIp-mo The awesome co-hosts for the August 5 posting of the IWSG are Susan Baury Rouchard, Nancy Gideon, Jennifer Lane, Jennifer Hawes, Chemist Ken, and Chrys Fey! Be sure to stop by to see what they are up to and thank them for hosting! Happy Writing, Doreen
