Summer Love and Blob fish…

Friday Fragments are bits and pieces of your week that are usually brief; too short for a stand-alone post, but too good to discard. Collect humorous observations, “Heard” items, and other small gems and put them together in a Friday Fragments post. Then visit our lovely host Mrs. 4444 and leave a link to your Friday Fragments…

We are getting really excited about our Florida trip. My husband and I are taking five of our grandkids to Daytona Beach. They are 8, 11, 11, 12 and 14. We will be leaving next Friday morning.  I made maps for the kids; do you think that will limit the “are we there yet” questions? The kids will be here Thursday night. We are going to introduce them to Clark Griswold and the Vacation Movie’s.

I had another surgery on Wednesday. A few years ago I broke my jaw and it never healed correctly. Bone fragments unlike Friday fragments were causing a lot of infections. There was supposed to be a series of ten surgeries over two years.  Two more were added because of infections. This one was the worst so far. The good news is it was number seven so there only four more of them to get through.

The season premiere of Hell on Wheels was last Saturday night. It was all good except for still not finding out Elam’s (Common) fate. I have always been fascinated with that time in our country’s history.

My Wednesday writing group is doing a 40,000 word August challenge. I didn’t have enough going on so I signed on. I started slow but have caught up. I have edited 10,000 words. I had wild dreams of finishing before the trip but realistically that probably won’t happen.

I was so excited to see another one of my posts up on the Midlife Blvd. site.  This one is a story about summer love. I recommend this site highly. It is full of all kinds of great information and a great group of bloggers.

One of the writing groups I am in meets at a Panera once a week. It seems lately this Panera cannot do anything right. The food has been awful, well it was always awful but we tolerated it because the location was good and they have a large enough back room to accommodate our group. Anyway the other night the WIFI wasn’t working. The manager said it was because too many people were trying to log in. I laughed because there were not that many people in there. Unfortunately one of the few people in there at that time was a pick –pocket and someone from our group was a victim. It is all just so disgusting. Our facilitator is looking for a new location. I want July back. August is so final. I’m not ready. There are just so many more summer things I want to do. Starting today I am going to try to do at least one thing, outside. Today that will involve taming the jungle in my yard and I am going to enjoy it, in February.

 Last month I commented on a blog post at http://www.booksiswonderful.com  and won a book! (Love that Blog!). Thank you so much Helene! The book is The Angel In My Pocket written by Sukey Forbes. It is about the loss of her little girl which had me terrified to read and then I thought if she was brave enough to tell her story the least I could do was to read her story. I am half way through the book. I know you are never supposed to say, “I know how she feels,” but number one her writing style is similar to mine and I can’t explain it but it feels kind of good to know I am not the only one that feels the way I do. It is a story of great loss but it is also about love, family and life after death. I am going to buy a copy and when I do my review I will give that copy away.

Author Sukey Forbes Cover Angel in my Pocket AMC has a marathon of Hell on Wheels episodes today and tonight just in time to prepare us for the new season’s first episode Saturday night. I am really looking forward to it. The new season of Turn follows. I love learning the history in Turn but that history is the only reason I am watching that series. It is hard to follow. The main characters are written well but the others are confusing. I hope that gets better. Hell on Wheels is just the opposite. The history is rich and the writing is compelling. And then there is the acting and the actors… http://www.amctv.com/hell-on-wheels/videos/a-look-at-season-4-hell-on-wheels

My office seriously looks like this but its a good thing. The editing on The Stranger In My Recliner is so close to done. I am having anxiety about asking for blurbs and forewords and all of that ‘ Its almost a real book kind of stuff.’ Why does that stuff make me so nervous?

Writing is hard I have been reading a lot of posts from teachers who are already preparing for back to school and the sale ads have started to run but here in the Philadelphia suburbs our kids do not go back to school until after Labor Day. Today, I couldn’t be happier about that.

What fun summer things do you have left on your to do list?

Also I am just curious, what is the closest tourist attraction to your home and when was the last time you visited that attraction? Have a blessed weekend, Doreen

July 4th was always a huge celebration in my family and it always started out with my brother, David’s birthday which is on the 3rd. when David was murdered 15-years-ago we tried to continue the tradition and still have a birthday party for him, a sort of memorial celebration of his life. It may have been a good idea but it felt awful. So around here the holiday has pretty much been a sad one. That hasn’t been fair to my grandkids. This year I am spending the holiday with 3 granddaughters.

We planned to attend our neighborhood block-party, with pony rides, ( Peyton is running through the house yelling wake up it’s time to cowgirl up, trying to wake her sister’s) bouncy houses and lots of hot-dogs and cotton candy followed by a concert and fireworks show at our local high school and lots of swimming and relaxing for the rest of the weekend. Then Arthur formed. I’m not sure how much outdoor fun will actually happen. It is not looking promising. At least here it will only be rain and wind. I hope everyone in direct hit areas stays safe. I hope Arthur just fizzles.

My week was sort of uneventful which is extremely rare. I’m still battling an infection that resulted from one of my dental surgeries and it is making me feel so tired. I haven’t had a 3-day-weekend in a very long time. It is going to feel so good to sleep in.

I took this picture on the way home from picking the girls up. They say they see an angel in the sky. I see it too. Do you?

One thing I was disappointed in this past week is the lack of understanding by so many people on just what the actual job of our Supreme Court Justices involves. There was legally, no way there could have made any other decision in regards to the Hobby Lobby case. President Clinton signed the Freedom of Religion act in 1993. The Supreme Court must hold up existing law. They have no authority to create or change laws. Whether we like the decision or not the law is the law. Am I the only one frustrated by the lack of civics knowledge?

DISNEY’S ‘CINDERELLA’ …

DISNEY’S ‘CINDERELLA’ is at the Media Theatre in Delaware County, Pa. this summer…

My two youngest grandchildren, Peyton Elizabeth and Adriana Jean have birthdays just a few days apart. This year they were turning four and five. Last year I took them to see their first movie and they loved it.  This year I wanted them to experience a live theatre performance. The Media Theatre in Delaware County, Pa. is presenting CINDERELLA on Saturday’s at 11:00 a.m. and Sunday afternoons at noon throughout June, July and August. What four and five- year- old little girls wouldn’t like to see a live version of their favorite princess?

Media Theatre Cinderella and Prince Charming

Cinderella and the Prince=== The Prince (Owen Mannion) and Cinderella (Emily Kinka)

Originally released by Walt Disney Studios in 1950, the film is one of their most successful adaptions. Disney will be releasing a new version of Cinderella in March of 2015. The newest version will star Cate Blanchett as the wicked stepmother.

Media Theatre NEW CINDERELLA MOVIE 3 15 The Media Theatre adaption is referred to as the kid’s version due to its shortened length and a cast that features young actors in many of the roles. It includes beloved songs like Bibbidee Bobbidee Boo and a Dream is a Wish your Heart Makes. The play is approximately one hour, which was perfect for my four and five -year-olds.

Media Theatre Cinderella play

Cinderella (Emily Kinka) with The Mice: Jaq (Carter Weiss), Luke (Alex Pollard), Perla (Alexsa McKeown), and Gus Gus (Sean O’ Neill)

Adriana and Peyton were so excited to sit in the front row. They enjoyed waving to and speaking with the musician in the orchestra pit. They were a bit frightened at first of the wicked stepmother played by Roger Ricker and the wicked stepsisters.  They loved and are still talking about how beautiful Cinderella’s gown was, how pretty the Fairy Godmother was and how handsome the prince was.

Humor plays a large part in this version with plenty of opportunity for young audiences to laugh, have fun and even participate. The king came down from the stage and invited children from the audience to his ball.

The production was professional and all of the kids did a wonderful job singing, dancing and narrating. The adults were hysterical. I love that the girls are still talking about Cinderella, the theatre and they are asking to see another play. I love creating memories with them. After the play we went to Linvilla Orchard, also in Delaware County for ice cream.

The Media Theatre is also offering, for groups of 12 or more, Golden Slipper Parties following the show. The Parties include a ticket to the show, pizza, punch, cupcakes, and gift bags. They take place in the theatre’s second level Crystal Room, where the party-goers get to meet the cast for photos and autographs.

As a summer celebratory wrap-up event and fundraiser for Media Music Theatre Company, Roger Ricker has his annual concert on Wednesday night August 13. This year’s title is “UP!” The show will feature upbeat numbers with positive messages, youth performers, and plenty of fun. Ricker has been seen in over 80 productions at The Media Theatre, with this being his ninth summer concert fundraising event.

I left for North Carolina on Wednesday morning and could not believe my luck at cruising through DC with NO traffic. Fredericksburg, Virginia always has traffic no matter what time of day or night it is. Lucky again it wasn’t as bad as it normally is. I wasn’t so lucky when I got off of I-95 and headed west on 85. The thunder storms were scary and I pulled over several times to wait it out and stopped at several rest areas. At one point a giant tree fell on the highway. I’m still shaking days later. When I arrived the sun was shining.

I am in North Carolina to celebrate my friend Joelle’s [who passed away in February] daughter’s graduation from high school. The ceremony was beautiful, Chais was stunning and we all felt Joelle’s spirit there with us. I am so proud of the young woman Chais is and I am nervous and extremely proud that this girl could have gone to school anywhere but she decided to serve our country as a Marine.

Will you be looking at the Friday the 13th full moon tonight?

When I get home next week John and I will be celebrating our wedding anniversary and a few more birthdays.  June is just full of celebrating for us. Our grandson Dominic turned 12 on the 10th. He is the sweetest kid.

It is odd, I know but I have not listened to much news this past week. That might explain why my blood pressure is lower.

I did write this post and would love to know what you think. Do I have a point or am I way off:    https://doreenmcgettigan.com/?p=5082

We had a wonderful time with our lil birthday girls last weekend. It’s all bittersweet for me. For the last eighteen-years we have either had a baby in our family or were expecting one. Not having a baby in the family is going to take some getting used to. John does not want to take the crib down at our house. He is afraid as soon as he does hmmm…

I am determined to live in and enjoy the moments with them, now.

The celebrations continued with Adriana’s last T’ball game yesterday.  Today I took Adriana and Peyton to see Cinderella at our local theatre.  It was a surprise. At first they were scared of the wicked stepmother and stepsisters. Once they realized everyone was laughing at them they relaxed.

Cinderella #1

After the play we went to visit Linvilla Orchards, a popular local farm.

It sure has been another crazy news week. Is he a POW, a traitor; CIA  and how about his Dad. It will be interesting to see how this plays out.

Our Philadelphia country station [WXTU] has a free anniversary concert every year. I was at the first one they ever had thirty-years ago and every one of them for twenty-eight-years and oh my how it has grown. I did not go last year or the year before because suddenly the event, become a dangerous, drunk fest. My husband pointed out that almost every new country song is about drinking which may explain a lot. When I think like this I fear I am getting old and cranky.

This is my 401st post.

I received one of my most favorite reviews to date the other day and guess who it was from:

http://artisticcomposition.blogspot.com

I am going to North Carolina on Wednesday, after taking a tour of a new concert venue at Sun Studio’s. My friend Joelle, who passed away in February, her seventeen-year-old daughter is graduating from high school and her six-year-old son is graduating from kindergarten. I am so proud of both of them and I know their Mama is one proud angel.

A bridge on I-95 South in Maryland has tilted. Officials closed the bridge so my drive to North Carolina will take a little bit longer.

There is a bridge in Philadelphia that actually shakes. It is terrifying to be stuck in traffic on that thing. I wonder if anyone checked to see if that one was tilting. I’m not sure there is a way around that one.

Hey it’s almost summer! What fun plans do you have on your summer bucket list? What are you planning to read? I have a recommendation. The lovely Rebecca Rasmussen’s [Bird Sisters] second novel, EVERGREEN will release July 15. It is available now for pre-release.

Good Day Philadelphia featured one of my tweets on Thursday. Of course I was at work so I didn’t have a chance to record it. They were doing a feature on superstitions and the things you do for luck. I am very superstitious. For thirty-years I have been wrapping my lottery tickets in the largest bills I have for luck. I haven’t had much luck with that but now I’m afraid to stop.

Fraggin’ Fantastic

By the time Friday rolls around my mind is so full of ½ thoughts, lists and ideas but lucky for me, the lovely, Mrs. 4444 over at Half Past -Kissin Time came up with the solution for all those Fragments. Friday Fragments is the place to unload all of those great ideas that just are not enough for a full post…yet.

The best part about Friday Fragments is without a doubt, the friends.

We are more than half way through this year’s A-Z Blogging Challenge. I have posted on time and have visited at least ten other blogs, each day of the challenge so far. I am still so excited that my ‘theme reveal’ post has eighty + comments.

If you have time I hope you will visit the A-Z’s of mental health awareness. Today’s post is on PTSD.

My editing on the book has suffered. I am going to try to catch up on that today.

I took a much needed break last Saturday and spent a glorious day with my daughters and grandkids. We had breakfast at Applebee’s with the Easter Bunny, to support my cousin’s little girl’s gymnastics team. The gymnasts actually served the breakfast and cleared the tables. They are a very impressive group.
