Suicide

Suicide is the act of killing oneself. Violence directed at oneself resulting in death.

According to the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention [AFSP], the most recent suicide stats available are from the year 2010. In the year 2010 there were 38,364 people who died of suicide.

Post Traumatic Stress Disorder [PTSD]

PTSD is a serious disorder that may develop after a person has experienced or witnessed a traumatic or horrifying event in which physical harm occurred or was threatened.

It is a lasting condition that causes intense fear, helplessness and horror.

Those with the highest risk of developing PTSD are victims of sexual assault or other violent crimes, the unexpected death of a loved one, an accident, war, natural disasters and abuse.

What I think of the Philadelphia Veterans Hospital getting a new name…

U.S. Senators Pat Toomey and Bob Casey [Pennsylvania] introduced a bill to rename the Philadelphia Veterans Hospital. They would like to see the hospital named for the city’s one and only Medal of Honor recipient from the Vietnam War, Corporal Michael J. Crescenz.

VA Hospital

Michael lost his life on November 20, 1968 while taking out enemy machine gun bunkers in South Vietnam. He was nineteen years young.
