Manipulating the List…

Today I am welcoming author K.B. Lever.  I watched the book trailer for Manipulating the List and was intrigued. Be sure to leave a comment for a chance to win a copy of the book…

At age six, Katherine Sheppard meets the person who will become her best friend – a friend she chooses to call the Collector. Their friendship will flourish for 16 years until the day comes when that friendship transforms into a game of manipulation and survival – with no escape.

She desperately tries to keep from losing her own life. She finds she must now assist in the deaths of others. She cleverly stays one step ahead of the law, but soon discovers she must also stay one heart-pounding step ahead of the Collector – to keep her name from becoming first on his list.’

Author, K.B. Lever

1)Where did you grow up?

I grew up in Simpsonville, South Carolina and moved to Charlotte, NC with my family upon turning twelve. It was a major culture shock – going from a small country town to a big city

2)As a child where you a reader or a writer?

I’ve always been more of a writer. I can remember long days in school where I would use my spare time in class writing poetry. Novel writing has been more of a recent development.

3) Do you have a designated writing space? A schedule?

The two places I normally find myself are in my living room on the couch or in my bed before bedtime. I hardly ever use my beautifully decorated office. I love the freedom of a laptop and have sometimes found myself at the pool, the beach, the back porch, and the park. I don’t have a set time to write. I unfortunately have to fit it in between a busy daily schedule.

4) What was the last book you read?

I have been reading a lot of mainstream lately trying to find out what certain age groups and genres are after. I use reading as a learning tool to get to know what certain age groups are looking for. I just started the Hunger Games, finished 50 shades of Grey, and am on the last book of the Percy Jackson Series.

5)Share your journey to publication

I was completely lost when I began researching the path to publication. I had a manuscript in my pocket burning a hole.  I sent out multiple query letters to agents and received many of the same form letters. You know, the “Thanks, but we’re not interested.” I read multiple books on big industry publication and self-publication trying to decide which route was best for me. When I learned how long a big industry could keep a book from going to print, I knew that I wanted to try self-publication first. I used to publish my book. It has been nothing short of a blessing.

6)Who created your book trailer?

The book trailer is a collaboration of multiple short films and photos pieced together. All of the images belong to their rightful owners.

7)What are you writing now?

I’m currently working on the second book in the Immortal Companion Series. I have about 5 chapters completed and hope to have it ready for release in Feb. 2013. We may press the date forward if we don’t get bogged down by the upcoming holidays.

I’m also working on a YA romance novel that I hope to release in late 2013. I have a title picked, but I want to wait until the book gets a little further along to release it.

This review is from: Manipulating the List (Paperback)

From reading the synopsis of this book I figured it would be a book that would keep my attention…I was wrong it engulfed my attention. From the moment that I downloaded it on my Kindle I was unable to separate myself from the story. I wanted to know more, I couldn’t wait til the next page to see which turn and twist in the story line I would be surprised with next. I felt as I was right there in the story with the characters living their lives (or unlives in some cases) with them. I can not wait for the next book in the series to come out so that I can be invited back into Katherine’s chaotic life and to see where the next step in her quest will take us.

“I read with interest and love the concept!”

“Your story is very chilling!”

“The creativity of authors never ceases to intrigue me…”

“I think your story is highly creative and intriguing…

Thank you Karen for sharing your work with us. I wish you the best of luck…

Visiting old and new friends..Friday Fragments

I hope this weekend is long because there is no way I am ready for summer to be over.  I do not want to give up my cute flip- flops and my white comfy pants.

To start the weekend right I am going to participate in Friday Fragments. To find out more visit here:  I hope you will join us.

I do not want to give up granddaughters Avery Paige to first grade or Adriana to preschool. I seriously have issues with the fact that my granddaughter Allyson is going to be a senior in a few days. YIKES!!

Last weekend John and I went to listen to a band.  I became friends with Oliver from ‘Of the Sea’ on facebook.…

A few months back he sent me a song. It was beautiful. It turns out the band is signed with my publishers music division. It is such a small world. There first cd will be released exactly one year from my books release date. Anyway, they were playing on the roof of one of our favorite Harley Davidson stores…yeah on the roof.  It was a lot of fun! Great music, good food, meeting new friends and the weather was beautiful.

My friend Tina and I went to North Carolina two weekends ago to spend some time with our friend Joelle who was undergoing chemo and radiation simultaneously. Her last treatment was on Tuesday. We were all so happy she would get a break from the daily trip into the hospital and she could sleep in. Wednesday morning she woke up with a fever and ended up at the hospital anyway. She has an infection. A serious infection.  She will have a pet scan in a few weeks and I am expecting a miracle. Please continue to pray for her.

Joelle’s 4 year old little boy asked her why she got sick. She did the best to explain to him that it just happens some time. He said to her I have faith that you will get better. Oh my goodness, he is 4! He then came into the kitchen and asked Tina and I if we would help him pray. He said God I know you are going to make my Mom better but in the mean time could you make her feel a little better. Very teary!!

Her daughter will be turning 16 next week. She is an amazing kid as well. She spent her summer caring for her mother. She got her driving experience driving her mother into the city for treatments.

Kyle is doing much better too. I am going to visit with him this week. I think the adults were more traumatized over his back surgery than he was.

I will be visiting another library next week with my book. I am going to talk about road rage and bullying. The library I visited last week invited me back in November. I am going to do a workshop on starting a blog.  Any bits of wisdom you want to share would be appreciated.

Who else’s head is about to explode with all the political stuff on facebook and twitter?  I do not mind excitement and cheering but the lies and deception and bullying…get real people…on both sides.

Let me ask you a question. Would you buy an authors book if you loved her writing but found out you hated her political views? A lot of us authors are being told not to talk politics. I do not think it would affect my decision to buy a book unless the views were very radical.

I am so excited to be doing some author interviews. My last post was with  Paulette Mahurin. Her novel The Persecution of Mildred Dunlap sounds good. You still have time to leave a comment for a chance to win the e-version of the book. The winner will be chosen over the weekend.

On Monday I will be posting an interview with Dina Santorelli, the author of Baby Grand. (Excellent.)  I hope you will stop by.

My book page on facebook got 89 new likes last week. Have you *liked* it yet?

My favorite quote this week is:

Live in each season as it passes; breathe the air, drink the drink, taste the fruit, and resign yourself to the influences of each. Henry David Thoreau

Have a safe holiday weekend everyone!!
