The Insecure Writers Support Group…

Today I am joining some fellow writers for The Insecure Writers Support Group because we all need a little support every now and then.

Tonight I held a blog workshop in my local library. I cannot say thank you enough to the very kind people that braved this crazy nor-easter weather to join me. You may not even realize how much you have helped me work through my insecurities.

Middletown Free Library Lima, Pa.

I guess that is where I am this month, I am still nervous about getting out into the public and talking about my book and myself. I decided I might be more comfortable talking about something I was passionate about and blogging is something I am getting less and less insecure with the more I learn. Ā I enjoyed sharing what I had learned with future bloggers and I look forward to seeing what they create

How do you feel about speaking in public? Are you insecure when it comes to sharing your works in progress with family, friends and/or strangers? When is the last time you were in your local library?

    as hell.

This is why I write write write… Xx

I think it’s fab that you held a blogging group at your local library.

  • Lex:

I tend to break out in hives if I have to share much about a WIP or even considering myself a writer. Speaking in public is a nerve-wracking thing but I would rather speak in public about a non-writerly subject any day than talk to a friend about a WIP. Weird.

Very cool about holding a blog workshop- way to go! Keep it up!

  • Very well done! Speaking in public is a nerve-wracking business. I’m a teacher so you’d think I’d be used to it, but I’m not – I shake like crazy if I have to take a mic šŸ™‚ Nice to meet you Doreen

  • I am definitely insecure about talking in public as well as talking about my work. For some reason I end up talking about all the irrelevant stuff. I admire you for having the guts to do it.

  • Public speaking (Yuk!). I can do it but I hate it and try to avoid it at all costs. Good for you for getting up and going for it!

Thanks for posting to IWSG, glad you could join us on behalf of Alex, welcome!

  • Sylvia van Bruggen:

Wow I am in awe of you. I think I can illustrate my fear of public speaking best by sharing one of my worst nightmares was about speaking at a TED conference šŸ™‚

  • I’m very insecure about sharing my work with family, because I care more about what my family thinks. I’ve always enjoyed speaking in public, but reading my fiction aloud is a different story. I guess it’s easier to send stuff out where I don’t have to witness someone’s reaction to it in person. I’m glad to hear you’re working through your insecurities. Keep it up!
