Keep Moving Forward

Welcome July!

Welcome July!

It’s another month and time for another posting of the #InsecureWritersSupportGroup. Whether you are looking for support, advice or a few hundred friends this is the place and we are your people!

You are welcome to join us!

The awesome co-hosts for the July 3 posting of the IWSG are

Nicki Elson, Juneta Key, Tamara Narayan, and Patricia Lynne! Be sure to stop by, say hi and thank them.

There is big #IWSG news this month!

I only followed the last Twitter Pitch. It was amazing and trended on Twitter with thousands of tweets. This month I’m jumping in!

The next #IWSGPit is Thursday, July 19, 2018! 8:00 am – 8:00 pm Eastern Standard Time  Create a Twitter-length pitch for your completed and polished manuscript and leave room for genre, age, and the hashtag. On July 19, Tweet your pitch. If your pitch receives a favorite/heart from a publisher/agent check their submission guidelines and send your requested query.

Many writers have seen their books published from a Twitter pitch – it’s a quick and easy way to put your manuscript in front of publishers and agents.

Rules: Writers may send out 1 Twitter pitch every hour per manuscript. Publishers/Agents will favorite/heart pitches they are interested in. Publishers can either Tweet basic submission guidelines or direct writers to their submission guidelines. (Writers, please do not favorite/heart pitches.) No images allowed in pitches. Pitches must include GENRE/AGE and the hashtag #IWSGPit. Ages: #C – children’s #MG – middle grade #YA – young adult #NA – new adult #A – adult Genres: #AD – adventure #CF – Christian fiction #CO – contemporary #F – fantasy #H – horror #HI – historical #LF – literary fiction #MCT – mystery/crime/thriller #ME – memoir #NF – non-fiction #PB – picture book #PN – paranormal #R – romance #SF – sci-fi #WF – women’s fiction

There’s lots of time left to get those pitches just right for the over 1000 agents and publishers watching. I’m SO excited!

This months question is:

What are your ultimate writing goals, and how have they changed over time (if at all)?

My ultimate goals haven’t changed but the journey to achieving those goals seems to be constantly changing. I’m getting much better at not allowing those changes to frustrate me.

I’ve always wanted to write historical fiction but was sidetracked when my brother was murdered, my husband brought home an 80-year-old homeless woman and my husbands 17-year-old son died of suicide. Those were stories I was compelled to tell.

Writing those books was therapeutic and educational.

This year I’m writing my first historical fiction (which is now a series of 3) and I’m so excited. The outline is done and I’ve started research and character development. After all these years I feel like my ultimate goals are actually in reach. How about you?

AND more news:

The genre is young adult romance and the theme will be announced September 5th. Get those ideas flowing!

Have a safe and happy 4th of July and happy writing!

Doreen

The End Is Near…

What is it about the fall that has me scrambling to finish everything I ever started and never finished? I know the answer is, because the end is near. The end of the year that is, and my goals are up there hanging on my office wall (the office I don’t write or work in) letting me know I’m about to fail.

I only set 10-goals for myself each New Year and I usually do pretty well, this year not so much. I’m going to give myself a pass and change up my plan a bit. In the mean time I will keep writing and moving forward. There is still plenty of time to catch up and there is all that writing fuel (candy) to look forward to this month.

It’s the first Wednesday of the month and that means it’s time for the monthly meeting of the Insecure Writers support group

Imagine That…#MondayMotivation

Imagine That…

Imagine that we American women united so no person or organization could control us by dividing us. Imagine that we actually did something other than persist. Imagine us coming together to solve problems. Imagine we built a bridge on what we have in common and our differences washed away under that bridge. Imagine that…

Imagine that on the topic of:

Schools- We agree we want the very best educational system for our children. We agree that every child has the right to an education regardless of race, religion, sex or disabilities. Imagine that we got together in our small towns and our cities and created a plan, we could make our school boards, administrators and educators accountable for every cent

Kindness is Sending a Bowl of Berries…

Kindness

Those that know me best know that I’ve been preaching kindness pretty much since I started talking. It is a new year and a good time for all of us to do a little soul searching and a lot of kindness generating. The ugliness I have seen over the past six-months has been overwhelming. We all need to take a good long look in the mirror and decide if we like who we see looking back at us. Are we telling little girls who to be or are we showing them by example?

Some psychologists believe that ‘being nice’ isn’t really so nice after all. They believe being nice actually comes from a fear.

Keep It Kind…

Keep It Kind

A couple of years ago around this time of year I challenged myself to make it through one week without thinking, saying or doing anything unkind. The challenge also included performing at least one random act of kindness per day.

The reason I entered that challenge was because I was full of anxiety and upset with people that were preaching and peddling kindness but only with those that agreed with and thought like them. Basically that meant only when it was easy for them to be kind.

My theme this year is Keep Moving Forward…

Yearly

I stopped making New Year resolutions ages ago because they only lasted a few days or maybe a few weeks. I decided a list of goals was a better plan for me and that worked so much better. I rarely finished all of my goals but I always made a good dent in my list. I now include a word of the year. This year my word is organization. My organizing was going so well, until April. My schedule was full and included traveling. On top of that I signed up for my fourth year of not only participating in but helping with the A-to-Z Challenge. I fell behind twice because I wasn’t prepared. I was determined to finish and I am going to work harder at being prepared.
