Friday Fragments

Completely Fragmented…

It’s been SO long since I’ve linked up with Friday Fragments! I’m looking forward to jumping right back in. What is Friday Fragments? Basically they are bits and pieces or snippets of your week. Those things that happened or things you’ve felt that were important but not quite long enough for an entire post. Join us, the more the merrier!

The host of Friday Fragments is Traci:

Finally…

Friday Fragments are bits and pieces of your week that are usually brief; too short for a stand-alone post, but too good to discard. Collect humorous observations, “Heard” items, other small gems and put them together in a Friday Fragments post. Then leave a link to your Friday Fragments post and link back to our host Mrs. 4444 at Half-Past Kissin’ Time.

It’s not too late to join in on the fun and we would love to have you!

Finally! The weather is a perfect 72 degrees, this morning. It feels like spring.

My granddaughter, Adriana Jean is 6-years-old today. She has brought so much joy and fun into our family. Six is so grown-up but she will always be the baby in her family. Her big brother Dominic will be 13 in two-weeks and her sister Allyson will be 20 in September. OMGoodness I am going to have a 20-year-old granddaughter, yikes!

Adriana Lost tooth

She lost her first baby tooth and was thrilled to find dollars under her pillow. I like her tooth fairy. Mine left a nickel and a pack of Trident.

I finally received the mock-up of the book cover for The Stranger in My Recliner. It is growing on me. Now I am anxiously waiting on the release date. I cannot wait to share Sophie’s story with everyone. What do you think of the cover?

What is going on in Texas? I have been praying for my friends and relatives who are dealing with flooding and no power and it is still raining. My uncle who lives in Texas had a 20-pound-racoon fall through his roof at 4:00 this morning. I hope his week gets better, he needs some sun.

Two weeks from today is finally the start of the Philadelphia Writer’s Conference. I haven’t attended for a few years now so I am really looking forward to listening and learning but most importantly I am looking forward to hanging out with some of my favorite writers. So excited!

And one week after that is finally our annual family beach vacation.

Of course I am hoping, finally for some kind of good news from the surgeon I am seeing on Tuesday about my pelvic congestion. I am praying for a non-invasive fix. I don’t want to miss the conference or the beach. Please think good thoughts for me.

TV has been pretty boring this week. I have new guilty pleasures. Married-The First Year-ended last week and one of the couples said they won’t be backL. ‘Arranged’ is a strange one but I am fascinated by the craziness and Married at First Sight has me hooked too. I am really rooting for these couples. These two are ending next week but Sunday is finally the season premiere of Halt and Catch Fire. This show kind of picks up where, Mad Men left off. It took a couple of episodes to get hooked but I love it now.

Halt and Catch Fire 1

I am finally, back to working on book #3, The Father’s Pain. This one may be my last nonfiction for awhile. I am looking forward to making some stuff upJ

This weekend will finally be quiet for us.  We need to rest-up. What are you up to?

Have a blessed weekend,

Doreen

During the month of April I participated in and was a helper with the A-Z Blogging Challenge. I planned on posting my Friday Fragments during the month too but the best intentions…

There was a terrible Amtrak train crash not far from us, in Philadelphia. The train was coming from Washington D.C. and headed to N.Y.C. Apparently the engineer took a radical curve at 106 mph. The limit is 50 mph for that curve. Eight people lost their lives and more than one-hundred were injured, some critically. I know so many people that take that train, often so it was terrifying. The two people I knew that happened to be riding that night are okay, thank God.

When my favorite weather woman said it was going to be a pollen-tsunami, she wasn’t kidding. My eyes are so itchy and red. I take Allegra but am going to have to try something else because it just isn’t working anymore.

I had a health scare, actually it is still happening. Something was ‘falling out of me’ and it was extremely painful. My primary doctor gave me an antibiotic, called it pelvic prolapsed and sent me to a gyn. The nurse-practitioner stopped the exam and was leaving the room. I asked her to say something and she said she needed to get the doctor because she had no idea what it was. I panicked. Of course I did. The doctor came in and introduced himself and proceeded to examine (push on, press and prod whatever was bulging causing me to see stars.) He had no idea. I insisted he tell me something so he said, “I think you are going to be fine. It might be varicose veins.” I needed to see a gyn-urologist as soon as possible. The soonest appointment I could get was June 10. I went to the ER. They admitted me, treated the pain ran a bunch of tests and said it was indeed pelvic congestion, (Varicose veins in the pelvic area.) I won’t see the vein doctor till June 2 so I am home resting as much as possible. I will most likely have an embolization done, soon I hope.

Never a dull moment.

The Stranger in My Recliner is in production. The art department told me I would have cover mock-ups by the end of the month. This book is finally going to be born. I am so excited and cannot wait to share Sophie’s story with everyone. I am hoping it at least starts a few conversations about ending homelessness. The synopsis is up there under books. I need to have a list of reviewers by the end of the month. If you are interested in a copy of the book in exchange for an honest review, please e-mail me and give me your address and let me know if you prefer paperback or digital copy. Thank you!

We are a little more than a month away from our crazy, fun annual beach week with all of our kids and grandkids. I am praying my health crisis doesn’t ruin it for us.

Beach Chairs

Is it spring in your neighborhood yet? We are bouncing between the 80’s and the 50’s. It is SO much better than 20J

Are you watching Madmen? What do you think?

Madmen

I am obsessed lately with Arranged, Married at First Sight and Newlyweds, the First Year. I just find these shows fascinating. What are you watching?

Have a blessed weekend,

I’m here and it’s Friday…

It has been awhile since I have participated in Friday Fragments and I have missed the opportunity to share tidbits from my week.

The best news of my week is the cover for The Stranger In My Recliner is on the drawing board and I cannot wait to share it with you. (I hope I like it, I am going to love it, I hope I love it) I am just a bit nervous.

I have the first cold I have had in at least two-years. I kind of forgot how awful they are.

The workshops I have been facilitating (along with an amazing committee) have been better than I could have imagined. I cannot believe there are only two more (one is our writing workshop, I cannot wait) and then we will have a fair. I am already looking forward to the next season.

Workshop Paparazzi

We had our warmest day in months yesterday, it was 66 degrees and sunny for forty-five-minutes before the downpours started. Today it is freezing again. Freezing cold, windy and raining again. I am trying to be patient. Hurry up Spring!

My Mom is going on her dream vacation. She has been missing my Dad terribly so I am thrilled for her and so proud of her for stepping out of her comfort zone and taking a Viking Cruise. Have you heard about these things? A-M-A-Z-I-N-G. Her traveling buddy is her high school bff. They are going to have a blast.

Viking River Cruise

They will be flying Lufthansa and I admit to being slightly unnerved. I am guessing their security will be heightened, even though there wasn’t much security could have done to avert this intentional crash. Crazy scary isn’t this whole suicide/crash thing?

Are you getting excited for the next presidential election yet? Oh my I can hardly wait. Ted Cruz announced and was immediately attacked by the media for being a one-term senator and for not being born in the U.S.  Sound familiar?

I just saw that Hillary supporters sent a warning to the media stating that they will be reading and watching for ‘coded’ sexism and if they find it they will report on it. What is coded sexism? Making fun of a pantsuit? It was kind of rude.

I am not looking forward to the messiness of it all.

Who is participating in the A-Z April Blogging Challenge this year? This will be my 4th year. I am still excited! There is still plenty of time to sign up and give it a try:

My big -bunch -of -grandbabies continue to get older and there are no signs of any new ones on the horizon. I am not complaining thirteen is enough for now and I am so grateful for each and every one of them.

I had so much fun shopping for a prom dress for my oldest granddaughter. She graduated last year but her bf is still in high school. I can’t show any photos yet but she promised I could when the big night gets here.

My next oldest granddaughter (15) is being bullied, again. More on that in its’ own post but I am furious at the way it is not being handled.

Have a blessed weekend,

Doreen

On Tuesday in the Philadelphia suburbs it was sunny and 67-degrees, it was beautiful. On Thursday it was barely 40 degrees and they were talking a wet mixture of white stuff. Driving home from work was a mess. So of course we are going down the shore on Sunday.

My favorite TV show obsessions are out of control. Kurt Sutter (the writer /creator of Sons of Anarchy) is definitely going to win a few awards. I did not see this coming:

RAVE: Sons of Anarchy: Finally, finally, finally Jax knows the truth about who murdered Tara! After Abel spent all day scratching himself with a fork to blame it on Gemma to get her in trouble with the school (seriously, how smart/scary is this 5-year-old?!?) Jax decided to get to the bottom of what was bothering his son and told him the truth about his “two mommies.” Now Abel knows Wendy is his “first mommy,” and asked if that’s why “grandma killed my second mommy so my first mommy can be with me.” Cue Jax’s bewildered expression, and the credits roll. Next Tuesday needs to get here now!

Hell on Wheels is back after a three week hiatus.  I cannot believe there are only 2 more shows left this season but thrilled the show was picked up for another season.  I am a history buff but I had no idea how brutally the Mormons fought against slavery. Today we would call their actions back then terroristic.

The Stranger in My Recliner will be sent off to the publisher next week. I cannot wait to share Sophie’s story with everyone. Wish me luck!

Did you know November is National caregivers month? I had no idea.

I am going to make a real effort to get the bulk of my Christmas and other Holiday shopping done before Thanksgiving. I hope I am not paving the road to Hell with my intentions. Have you started?

My favorite quote this week:

Fear does not stop death, it stops life! Isn’t that the truth?

I have been the lamest blogger lately. Hopefully that will end very soon. I have less than 20 pages left to edit on The Stranger in My Recliner. I see the light at the end of the tunnel and can feel the relief. I am looking forward to finally updating my website and adding some new features to my blog.

Thank goodness the annoying elections are over. In our house we are half satisfied and half terrified. I suppose we will have a week of peace before they start with the commercials for the next election. How did your state do? Are you happy or disgusted?

It is time to start thinking about a foreword writer and some people to write blurbs for The Stranger in My Recliner [an intimate look at the homeless and mental health epidemic in America.] Who do you think would be someone good to ask, famous psychiatrists, psychologists, politicians, actors or actresses that work for one or both of these causes? Do you have any suggestions? A field I haven’t thought of that might apply? My wish list: Dr. V, Glenn Close and John Huntsman.

My appearance on The Wis Lit Show…

This show is done in a high school. The kids were amazing, very professional!

Last weekend while I was sleeping, somebody side swiped my car and just took off without a care. The damage was, of course just short of the deductible. This is the 3rd time this year. WTHeck?

Lesson learned at our house this week: Don’t hire a plumber to paint your house because the results will be sh*#ty.

We had a great time visiting the Happy Witch’s House at Linvilla Orchards with our granddaughters, Morgan, Avery and Peyton.

We had a happy ending to a scary news story in Philadelphia. A young woman was abducted and missing for 2 days. They found her in Maryland. Thank God they found her when they did because it was not going to end well. The guy is evil.

Another story, yesterday from our neighboring county, and I’m sure this will be a national story by next week, a mother and her boyfriend in the presence of the boyfriend’s wife [oh my is all I can say] beat a 3-year-old little boy to death because he wouldn’t eat his breakfast. The details are worse than the worst horror film. The DA already announced he would be seeking the death penalty. I cannot seem to shake the sadness I feel for that poor baby and his 6-year-old brother who was also abused and now is safely with other relatives.

Have a blessed weekend,

Doreen
