Friday Fragments are bits and pieces of your week that are usually brief; too short for a stand-alone post, but too good to discard. Collect humorous observations, “Heard” items, other small gems and put them together in a Friday Fragments post. Then leave a link to your Friday Fragments post and link back to our host Mrs. 4444 at Half-Past Kissin’ Time.
It’s not too late to join in on the fun and we would love to have you!
Just when I started to have a glimmer of hope that my Phillies might be turning a corner and starting to click because they won six games in a row they went and lost two games. It’s a bit too early to be looking forward to the Eagles and Tim Tebow so maybe tonight…
Did you watch the Madmen finale? It took me until the next morning to get it. I think it was because I was so sad to see it end.
We started to watch Halt and Catch Fire and by the 3rd episode we were hooked. The 2nd season starts next week, can’t wait.
The past few years I have volunteered to wrap up the gift baskets for fun charity event, The Girlfriend Gala. It is an annual celebration of our girlfriends and a fundraiser. The host of the Happy Hour Radio Show, author, speaker and friend, Annmarie Kelly founded the annual celebration several years ago. When I first attended the event I was brand new to this county and only barely knew two people at the event. This year I knew almost everyone and still met four amazing women that I hope will become good friends before next year. Do you have an event in your area that celebrates girlfriends?
This year’s benefactor was the Phil*Hanna Fund, which was started by another friend, Pam Mariani. The fund was started to memorialize Pam’s mother Philomena and her birth mother, Hanna. The fund is a semi-annual scholarship for a non-traditional nursing student at Delaware County Community College.
The comedy portion of the event was provided by elder attorney, brand new author, speaker and friend the hysterical Cathy Sikorski. If you are looking for something different, (and very funny for a change) to read check out Cathy’s book, Showering with Nana.

What a difference a few years can make. I was so homesick and lonely and here I am blessed with the best girlfriends a woman could ask for.
This weekend I am going to attend the Devon Horse Show for the first-time as an adult with the most fabulous girlfriends. Yikes, I really need a hat. What do you have planned for this holiday weekend?
Have a fabulous and blessed weekend,
Doreen

How lovely to do something with the Girlfriend Gala. Nice!
It is always such a fabulous event.
Sounds like wonderful weekend plans! And you do need a hat!!
This whole hat thing is making me a little nuts:)
Devon Horse Show! That sounds wonderful. I’m assuming the UK. I love Devon and Cornwall…actually, I love the entire UK!
No it’s not in the UK but just south of Philadelphia and it has been around forever.
Never got on the Madman bandwagon…now I wish I had, with all the talk about the last episode (and the entire show!) Perhaps I’ll need to catch up on Netflix…
It is a series worth watching. I started late and had to binge to catch up.
Clearly we had the same reaction to Cathy’s book! What a fun read. Have fun at the Devon Horse Show. We used to go every year when I was a kid. I loved it.
It is a funny book! I think the Horse Show will be fun and the weather looks perfect!
Both events sound like a lot of fun! I am going to spend the weekend on my canoe floating on the lake…and working on my book!
That book is going to be interesting, can’t wait to read it!
Hey Doreen,
It sounds like you’re a busy woman, these days. The Girlfriend Gala sounds like fun. I loved your gift bags, by the way.
I’ve just started watching Madmen on Netflix. I’ve heard so much hype, I thought I’d give it a try.
Have a good weekend, and go get yourself a hat 🙂
I hope you are liking Madmen and yes we have been too busy. Time to slow down.
I must be the only person in the world who has never watched Mad Men. Have fun at the Devon Horse Show. I think I only went one time and I don’t remember much about it. I’m more of a dog person than a horse person.
I’m not sure if I am a horse person or not but I am going with friends that are.
I have never watched Mad Men, probably because my husband was in advertising and we got enough of it in real life! Can’t wait to read Cathy’s book, too — it looks great. Have fun at the horse show. Looking forward to seeing the hat you decide on!
Cathy’s book is hysterical!
I never watched Madmen either! I feel so left out lol. It’s so nice to hear the most awesome girlfriends…they are hard to come by for sure. Have a wonderful and fun weekend!
I feel so out of the loop, I so rarely watch actual TV that I have no clue what is on anymore. I am going to have to look up those shows you mentioned and give them a watch. What a terrific charity event, it sounds like getting involved with it has been very rewarding. I will be babysitting my grandchildren all weekend and hoping to find something fun outdoors to do with them if the weather permits.
Have a great Memorial Day weekend!
Have fun with your grandchildren! I am missing mine this weekend.
What a fun post! I love Friday Fragments. Seems like most of my posts would fit in that category. Don’t give up on those Phillies yet. That Cole Hamels is pretty awesome!
I hope you will join us next Friday!
Have fun at the horse show, my SIL is a big horsey person and is always going to shows, generally as a contestant, sometimes to watch.
I was very disappointed in the ending for MadMen. It seemed very fragmented like they just pulled junk from the air…to add a paragraph to most of the main characters and didn’t do a good job of it at all. Some of it didn’t relate to the whole series at all, what a let down, had really enjoyed the show…but also thought it took a noise dive after Don left the one sales meeting telling about being an alcoholic….he next shows his kids the house where he lived and then it jumps back to his being with everyone and business as usual.
Hope some of those characters show up though in other shows, really enjoyed them and the only one I remember seeing in something before this show was Peggy, as the Presidents Daughter in West Wing.
I agree the ending to Madmen was fragmented and sewn together but I did love the last scene.
