Writer’s Conferences and the Insecure Writer’s Support Group…
Like most writers I can feel stressed out, from time to time, luckily for me, I have my friends at the Insecure Writers Support Group. #IWSG
The group meets on the first Wednesday of every month. Whether you need a shoulder to cry on or you have some great advice you would like to share, no matter where you are in your writing journey, you are welcome to join us.

December is one of my favorite and one of my least favorite months. I just got back into the swing of writing each day after my summer laze fest and here come the holidays threatening to slow me down again. I cannot let it happen not this year.
Aside from all of the, holiday goings on this is the time of year that writers need to choose what conferences, workshops, retreats, expo’s etc. that we might like to attend, next year. I think I will keep it simple this year and stick with the three that are closest to my home. The Philadelphia Writers Conference is one of the oldest and I think one of the best. This year it is June 7-9. The other two I have never attended but always wanted to are the Philadelphia Christian Writer’s Conference and the other is in Wildwood, N.J. I am going to make an effort to get to those this year too.
I found this great site with a pretty good listing of 2013-2014 events. It is her post from October 5. If you have not been to a conference I highly recommend you make an effort to get to one. It can do wonders for your writing and your spirit.

Mixed emotions about conferences. I’ve been writing long enough that I really don’t get much out of sessions. I use that money to work with a writing coach 1/1 and I find that way more helpful. Doesn’t mean I won’t go to a conference in the future, but I don’t see it in 2014.
What a great idea, Carol. I’ve been thinking about a coach. At this point the conferences are social
activities for me.
I have yet to make it to a conference or join any kind of association. I suppose I should get on that but it can be very expensive.
Best of luck with your choices.
Heather
It certainly can get costly but some are well worth they investment. Look for workshops in your area, they are usually inexpensive.
I’ve attended the Greater Lehigh Valley conference in Allentown, PA the past few years. That’s the only one I’ve gone to so far. I’m planning to branch out in 2014 and go to a few others. The Philly conference isn’t too much of a drive for me. Maybe I’ll see you there!
That would be awesome. Stay in touch!
